Happy 4th Birthday, Quentin!

Quentin turned 4 on the 2nd. These last 4 years have gone by SO fast. We started Quentin's birthday week with dinner with my family. We also celebrated Dad's birthday and since he does all the cooking, we go out to eat for his birthday.

The Birthday Boys!
As you can see, Quentin is wearing a "inja turtle" mask. He wanted super hero and costume stuff for his birthday. I've since learned that the blue turtle is Leonardo ( I can't tell you any of the other names).

On Quentin's actual birthday I did a little questionnaire.

What is your name: Quentin James Turner. He often says his full name when asked what his name is.. and some people don't hear the Quentin, and think his name is James.

How old are you? 4, holding up 4 fingers.

Favorite Color? Purple

Favorite Animal? Lion

Favorite book? This was tough for him.. He has so many books (which I love), and he will read the same one a couple nights and then move on. The other night, he was up until 11pm reading books.. I had already gone to bed, and had no idea he was even still awake.

Favorite movie? Land before time.

Favorite Song - Happy and you know it. He has recently started asking us to turn on music and wants to dance. :)

Favorite food? Corn. He loves his fruits, snacks and junk food.. but he will often ask for corn or broccoli for supper.  I often ask him what we should have for supper.. he comes up with some pretty good ideas, complete with a veggie and fruit.

Favorite Snack? Fig newtons.

Favorite toy? Airplanes - this was also tough for him. He has so many favorites.

Who is your best friend? Talan - He's the neighbor. He and Quentin are inseparable most days. They sneak into each others houses and are just very much boys.

Favorite thing to do outside? Ride his bike.

What do you want to be when you grow up?  A Firetruck man.

I couldn't keep his attention much longer to ask anymore questions. I like this question type things, however, his answers could and do change hourly.

Jeremy took the afternoon off work, and we had planned to go to the Cubs afternoon game, but my days were off(maternity leave will do that to you) and we were a day late. So, we went to Jordan creek instead and did the build a bear thing. He picked a shark, and it's actually a puppet shark, which I thought was pretty cool. We also shopped around a bit. Quentin wore a shirt that says today is my birthday and several stores gave him stickers.

Giving the heart a kiss

I apparently didn't get a pic of the final product. so, will add that later.

I gave Quentin the choice of Zoo or park, and he said both.. Turns out, there is a little park outside the zoo enterance. So after the zoo we stopped there. There was a nice shadded area and I was able to feed Ben while Q played. There was even a nice bathroom and drinking fountain. It worked out perfectly.

Voted most unfun part of the park. I'm not sure
what the point of this "slide" is?

That night, Grandma Nancy came over with presents. Quentin was Very excited.

The birthday fun didn't stop there. We had a little birthday party on the following Sunday. We grilled some hamburgers and hotdogs, ate some cake and ice cream and opened presents. Quentin didn't want it to end. He was very sad when all his friends left.

Cam was so sweet with Betty!

Quentin was so nice to help Cam put on his sunglasses

The last thing we did for his birthday, was hit the bank. We took his piggy bank along with us and emptied it out. He had almost $70.00 in it. Quentin wanted money for the ice cream truck, so we kept $5.00 out for that. Quentin was actually sad that his money was all gone. He thought the bank teller took it, and wasn't ever going to give it back. I think this will be a tradition with all the kids on their birthdays.

Of course, we missed the ice cream truck that night, but caught it another night.

Buying ice cream with his own money

I realized on his birthday, that we didn't actually have his 4yr appointment scheduled. I hate that you can't make appointments a year in advance. So, I was finally able to get him in on the 15th. I wasn't sure if there would be shots or not, but just in case, I did mention them to him, and told him they would just feel like he was getting a quick pinch. He didn't seem to be bothered by that and said, he would just close his eyes, and it will be over in a just a second. He weighed in at 34.8(38%) and was 41 inches tall(62%). Dr. Schutte says he's doing awesome. He didn't gain as much weight as he did height though, but nothing too alarming. And, turns out, we don't need shots until next year. We could have gotten them, and I kind of wish we would have. But, Quentin heard the option of having them or not, and got really excited.

Quentin is getting so big. At 4 years old, he can..

.. Ride a bike very well. He doesn't need training wheels, but is afraid to ride without them. they're on the highest setting and barely touch the ground.
.. Dresses himself every morning, even picking out his clothes. Still wants help brushing his teeth.
.. speaks very clearly and uses big words. :)
.. writes his name correctly and in the correct direction.
.. knows his right and left.
.. Continues to love fruits and veggies. Often will ask for broccoli with supper.
.. Is pretty coordinated. He can bat right and left handed pretty well, and throw with both hands. Loves riding the scooter we got him for his birthday.
.. has an amazing memory and we can no longer tell him that he can do something later, and hope he forgets.. He never does.
.. Is such a good big brother. Q and Cam play so well together (most of the time) and it's hilarious to listen to their conversations and them laughing at each other.
.. Loves the water and will be taking swim lessons this winter.

More few more Q pictures..

He was so excited about his medal.

Ben was squirming a little, so Q got down and tried to soothe him.

We just finished Tot ball, and will start soccer at the end of the month.. Along with starting 4 year old pre-school.

Coming up - Ben is 2 months old and a catch up post of whats been happening.
