August Thus far...

Jeremy and I hosted a Toga party on August 3rd. It was a good time, and we're so glad so many people could make it. HUGE thanks to Nancy for taking the kiddo's in while Jeremy and I pretended to be 21 again.

For the first time ever, we checked out the State Fair parade. We met up with Carrie, Tre and Stella. Thankfully, they arrived a little early, and were able to save us some seats. I don't think I realized how many people came out for this parade.  Q had a ton of fun and even danced. The performances were entertaining and I wasn't at all upset about the lack of candy. Apparently, you can't throw candy in Des Moines parades anymore.

Q loved waving at everyone.

Last weekend, we headed down to the farmers market with Carrie and Stella. After getting our breakfast burritos and pizza - we walked around the river walk and the World Food Prize building (old downtown library). They have a nice garden with a walking path. It's hard for me to even remember it when it was a parking lot just a few years ago. Cameron LOVED the fountain.

Stella wasn't being very photogenic, but I snuck one in.

Jeremy went on bike ride with some guys from work on Tuesday, so I took the boys to Hawkeye Park in Ankeny. It's one of my favorite parks...and I think Q's now too. The playground is awesome and has stuff that I haven't seen at any other playground, and it's that soft surface, so I didn't have to worry about Cameron eating wood chips or sand.

Quentin was very upset when it was time to leave.

Fair Time!! We headed to the fair on Saturday morning. We met up with several people and had a great time. Although I'm convinced next year we should go 4 times, and divide the area's up. There really is just so much to eat, see and do that it's impossible to do it all in one trip with the kids. And, the people watching never gets old.

Quentin insisted on getting some ice cream. He was kind
enough to share with all of us and even feeding Cam,
who also loved it.

This is made out of Lego's and just crazy awesome!

Showing Dylan his "tat"

Baby ostrich is a leg hatched. We were there for at least 10
minutes, but no more activity. Not sure how long it can stay
like that before completely hatching.

Really, the only place to get something to eat from, although
my pork chop on a stick was pretty good too.
Spin art tradition! Dylan and Q have done spin art at the fair the last 3 years. The first time, Q was only 1 month old. Wyatt and Jackson along with a few others joined in this year as well.

Quit possibly Q's favorite - The water fountains. He got soaked. I knew I had a spare change of clothes, so it really wasn't that big of a deal. I was a little amazed at the kids wearing swim trunks though.

Big Yellow slide - Another tradition. Although Quentin didn't do the slide the first year he came to the fair, I certainly did. This is the only "ride" we do. Quentin didn't seem like he liked it, but said he did.. but didn't want to go again. I'm still unsure if he really did or not. I, along with others, went twice. Never have I had to wait on stairs for a turn though. And, for the record, there are 106 stairs!

We didn't get to see everything we wanted to, but I'm sure it will be there again next year. Hopefully the great weather will be too.

We met up with Bobbie, Dylan and a few others Saturday night. Quentin had a ton of fun playing in the bounce house and watching some of a movie on the big screen.

I'm pretty sure we need one of these projectors and screen. It was awesome! Huge thanks to the Franks for inviting us over.

This morning, Jeremy went golfing with some of the neighbor guys. Q, Cam and I met up with Carrie, Stella, Bobbie and Dylan at the Pirate Cove park in Altoona. The park is pretty nice, although doesn't have restrooms or swings. What kind of park doesn't have swings? Bonus though, with the soft spongy surface. I had no worries about Cameron eating wood chips or sand again.

Quentin is playing with a music thing, you turned the wheel
until it dinged, and then music started. It was awesome!
The "ship" even had a little diving board.
The ice cream truck guy came around the other night. Not sure if he'll be back, so we let Q get one last one for the summer (and because Daddy's a sucker).
