Happy Birthday, Benjamin Arthur!

The birth story of Benjamin Arthur...

...I had a Dr. appt on Wednesday the 27th. At that time I was 3 cm dilated and they wanted to do an ultrasound to make sure fluid was still good, and everything looked as it should. I asked if I could just be induced instead, as I was 1 day away from my due date, and they had told me that they don't allow patients to go over 41 weeks. So, I didn't really see the point in the ultrasound for them to then turn around and induce me anyway. So, they agreed, and we set it up for Friday, the 30th. Since it was an elective induction, I could get bumped and not be induced until Monday if they were too busy.

Mercy called me 2 times on Thursday, getting all my information and would call me on Friday morning between 5-8am to let me know what time to come in. Around 7:30, I started having very mild contractions. This wasn't the first time, so I didn't think much of it. 8a.m. came and went, and I hadn't heard anything. So, I called them and was told, they were completely full, and weren't sure I'd be induced today, but would call me around noon. I let them know, that I was having contractions, so they may be seeing me anyway. I got the house picked up, vacuumed, did some laundry and just kind of waited around. The contractions started getting stronger around 8:30, so I started timing them. They were 7-8 minutes apart.

Around 10ish, I decided they were strong enough, had gone on long enough, and were getting closer, so we headed to the hospital. Q was home with us, and Cam was at daycare, so Dad met us at the hospital and took Q back to his house. I got all checked in and put into an observation room. They hooked me up, checked me and called my Dr. to let her know I was there. I was 4cm dilated at that time. After they talked to my doctor, they decided to keep me, and we were waiting for a delivery room to open up. Thankfully that happened really fast. The contractions were getting really strong.

I got into the delivery room, hooked up, and wanted to walk around. The nurse was getting my health history and could see I was uncomfortable. She asked if I wanted a medicine ball, to sit in the jacuzzi, anything, and I told her, I just wanted an epidural. So, she agreed to check me to see where I was at.. to her surprise, I was 7-8cm. She immediately called for the anesthesiologist, and other nurses to help set up the baby station. It seemed like it was less than 30 seconds and my room was filled with about 10 people.. thankfully one of them was the anesthesiologist. Got the epidural, and ahh.. that was great!

The room cleared out, and the nurse finally was able to get the rest of my health history and checked me again.. Shocked again, I was already a 9. I progressed very fast. Dr. Hanson had been in and checked me as well. It was determined that Benjamin was sunny side up. So, Dr. Hanson gave us 2 hours to get the baby turned, otherwise, it would probably be c-section.

That nurse had me in all kinds of crazy positions, on my hands and knees, squatting, on my right side, on my left side, back on my hands and knees.. pushing while in these positions as well. Thankfully Jeremy was there to help too. At first, I couldn't feel anything, which made getting on hands and knees even more difficult. She turned down the epidural a little, and I could then feel the contractions, but they weren't bad at all. Finally, with 15 minutes to spare, Ben flipped.. And, since I could feel the contractions now, I felt the urge to push.. and the nurse yelled, STOP!!! I had to wait.. within seconds, my room was once again filled with about 10 people, or so it seemed. Dr. Hanson had just walked in with crew and barely got her gown on before Benjamin made his appearance.

C-section papers were actually brought into the room, and were ready for me to sign, thats how sure they were we'd end up there. I'm SO SO glad, the outcome was what I wanted.

We had Benjamin on our list for Quentin and it just kept getting carried over. We always knew what our middle names would be, and the order of them and finally Benjamin fit with Arthur which is my Grandpa's name. And, it works out that his initials are BAT.. so, we can call him BATMAN!

Now for some pictures..

We had a few visitors and I didn't get pictures of most, but did get one of Uncle Eric.

After I almost gave Cameron up for adoption, I made Jeremy fill out the paperwork for Ben.

We're home now and doing good.. Look for an update soon... With lots more pictures. (I refuse to be one that takes less and less photos)
